Nisse
I love the Scandanavian Christmas style.. with the recent snow and things I am feeling really festive and we have our annual family Christmas decoration making get-together this Sunday coming- Yay!
What is this? You may be wondering! These are Nisser.. at least evidence and photographic documentation of them! Nisse go right back to the stone ages and are right now hiding amoungst the animals at the Copenhagen zoological museum. There is an exhibit about their history and discovery.. and some (ehm) remains.. here’s a peak preview
Nisser make their homes in tree trunks and have mice as pets?
I am told that If you are good to your Nisse he will help your farm and you have a good harvest.
They really like to party too from what I hear (but that could just be a myth) They live to be really old, This ‘bog nisse’ was around 300 years old at the time of his death. The skeletton was found preserved amoungst tree bark.
From what I am told Nisser are still going strong today! It is said that some lived and travelled under the deck of Viking ships and are growing in numbers abroad as well as in scandinavian countries. You have to be very quiet to catch sight of them tho due to their highly sensitive hearing, and sharp eye sight.. let me know if you see one..
Happy festivities!

I love this! I feel like I got to travel to a different country and never even left my front room! I wonder if we have any nisse in our back forest? After all we had deer in front of the house two days ago. Do nisse take care of forest friends?
MrA Informs me that they are friends with all the animals and they can talk with them! They get around by vehicle of swans and geese
Wow! I think you should do a post about Danish traditions you’ve learned. I’m intrigued.
