Saturday was fastelavn, the scandinavian ‘Halloween’ only you don’t have to dress up scary and you have to knock your sweets out of a wooden barrel with a wooden bat. Who ever gets the sweets to fall gets crowned the ‘King’ and whoever gets the last of the barrel down is crowned the Queen. In olden days there wasn’t candy knocked from the barrel, but.. a real black cat which they would knock dead, the cat representing evil and killing it warned off bad spirits. There are some special custard or cream, and jam pastry’s made for fastelavn that are very yum. Yep, that’s me as the tooth fairy!

  2. Looks like a great time! I love the tooth fairy costume. It is neat to hear about this tradition. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Indeed it is! I’m well impressed with my big chocolate coins too.. the costume was inspired by a shadow puppet I’d seen on etsy- funny how my mind works.
