going green going happy

Since discovering the delightful little book which is owned by my friend Mike called; ‘Change the world for a fiver’ at his home at the newest of the year, it has had me thinking again of the way that I live and how those ways effect everything/one else. I feel an incredible satisfaction being on my bike here in Copenhagen, and its a breath of fresh air feeling the advantages of the exercise and well.. feeling the wind through my hair and splashing through puddles on my bike!

I made a deliberate conceous effort when I lived in Britain not to become a car ‘abuser’- such as being so much in the habit of jumping into a car for anywhere I needed and wanted to go to the point it was regardless if the destination was just around the corner.. I decided to rather walk to work than get the bus even. I also found myself day dreaming of the days when there were few people traveling viewed through the shield of glass, and yet they still had to travel, I imagine a much healthier, fitter and sociable, possibly even happier and more fullfilled society? I really enjoyed the time I spent unwinding on those walks I had, a chance to take it easy and meditate about things. While here in Copenhagen Niels and I got work for a couple of months before Niels started his Uni course, to get there we have to travel either a six mile trip which takes about an hour by public transport, (nothing goes there directly) or we can cycle it in twenty five minutes. My first ever big cycles! Between us we also save about 25GBP every week- thats 100GBP a month, thats quite a lot a year that could go toward some good stuff! I think that often it becomes a matter of having to be somewhere as fast as you can than enjoying the day and the journey, and the moment.. could it really shift so much in our perspectives and lifestyle… even to the difference of doing something conceously and just doing something one way because it was once easier, quicker, accepted, popular trend of doing? How much does it really impact our lives what we choose to do with our moments.

In scripture it tells us that the greatests of the gifts of God is peace, I guess you can appreciate peace more when you have perhaps experianced at one time a lack of it! Perhaps also because I enjoy so much smelling the roses, to me it is priceless taking time out to walk.. and cycle and slow the pace right down for a moment.
