Juicy berries glisten, green leafy leafage leafs… Its fall! I love it, outside is ‘ripe’ and to make it even better the sun is out!
HELP! calling all apple lovers/baking people (not people who get baked or bake people!)
My Father in law went Fishing yesterday and caught a load of herring, he phoned to ask if we’d like some and Oh do I, fresh fresh fish… nothing beats it fresh! He asked If I’d like some apples too, they have loads of them (the other week they gave us plums from their garden) So now I have a small mountain of cooking apples to play with (yes I play with my food) I made an apple crumble for Helmi and Richardt last night to say ‘thanks’ for sharing their bounty of goodness. I need some apple recipes! theres loads on the net its impossible to sift through them all to find what are really good ones and what are just okayish.. I love spiced apple dishes. I need some classic favourites, apple pie’s, apple cakes… any please, do you have a traditional family favourite? otherwise I will have a freezer of apple sauce!… handy, maybe some apple jam too..

Thank you for the recipe! I’ll give that one a go for sure. I’m interested in what other recipes you have. I have a mountain of apples to make into dreamy goodness.. I get so much spam, I probably lose your messages among them. I’ll have to be doubley careful next time.

Waw. An ace variety of recipes! I made sauce of most of the apples last night and put it in the freezer. There’s a lot of it. I love freezing things. (food things) I think its from my training in ‘LDS’ism- food storage and making use of the bountyfullness of the seasons… Simple resourcefulness, feels so satisfying and gives me peace of mind knowing that I have this nice handy goodness stored up if I have a party gatecrash with short notice or somone gets sick and you want to take them somthing and your waiting for payday..
Have you made all these before? Where did you get them? I’m particuarly intregued with the dip and excited about the apple cake. wahh. I’m going to a house warming Friday, I’m thinking it would be nice to take if it makes it that far… Saturday theres a summer party with a cake contest, prize’s for the best tasting and the best decorated cakes.. I have a novel idea for my cake but I don’t think It will be winning material in the taste department.. you’ll just have to wait to see my design! speaking of which I have to go conduct some experiments for that soon (ratios for balance.. how cantilevered can a cake be) before I run off to work. It’s going to be fun to see how creative people get
one I’m going to have to take my camera to.
Where do you work?
I haven’t tried all those recipes but Washington is famous for it’s apples and they’re from a Washington Ward Cookbook so they’re tried and tested by someone…
I like apple dip. They sell it here in the supermarkets. You can get caramel dip or that creamy one I just gave you.
Apple sauce is good too because it stores well and someday you’ll have kids who cant chew an apple but can slurp apple sauce. Stuart loves apple sauce. He eats it as a snack.
Mum makes a really yummy apple chocolate cake. Maybe you can get her recipe? Apples are also lovely in chicken mayo. Yummy Yummy!
hmmm the other day I made custard and put a dollop of my apple sauce in it. I dont know if even our mass of appley sauce will make it that long till we have kids, I mean… It might not even make the 9 months! .. theres a lot yeah.. but hmmm.. I’ll be getting that recipe for the Choc-apple cake from mum.. Do you know how long is ok to keep likes of apple sauce in the freezer? is it one of those things that like jam, keeps almost forever when stored right?
I’ve been working for Belkin and another company whenever they need me freelance style- I haven’t really been able to go for full time employment because next week I’m traveling back to the wee toon to pick up the rest of my things and clear out my old abode which is pretty much sold already. And it wouldn’t be so good to take holiday off work for a week when just started, I’ll be glad when I’m all gathered in the one place
see in your apple cake recipe, the 4cups of apples- do you slice, dice.. grate them?
My apples weren’t good as eating apples, they are hard and sour when uncooked tho Niels bro got a bag of them too and he liked to eat them!
I’d grate the apples for that recipe.
